The careers programmes at Medway UTC are designed to support students at each stage of transition and decision-making. They aim to provide students with relevant information to help  them make informed choices about their future, and develop their employability skills.

Below is an overview of the areas covered in each year:

Year 10

  • At the beginning of the school year, students receive an action plan to complete which is used throughout the year to set targets, look at different careers and identify skills.
  • Termly Career workbooks are completed during Tutor time covering topics related to the Gatsby Benchmarks.
  • Work Experience week with a Construction or Engineering Company.
  • Trips and Visits: The Skills Show, The Big Bang Fair, Careers fair at Medway UTC, Local Careers Fairs, workshops and presentations from various outside companies and our Employer Partners.

Year 11

  • At the beginning of the school year, students receive an action plan to complete which is used throughout the year to set targets, look at different careers and identify skills.
  • Termly Career workbooks are completed during Tutor time covering topics related to the Gatsby Benchmarks.
  • Post 16 Options Evening – an information evening about the options available for further study at Medway UTC and alternative pathways.
  • Careers Interview with a qualified Careers Adviser, with an action plan to use.
  • CV Workshops and Mock interviews with our partner companies.
  • Trips and Visits: The Skills Show, The Big Bang Fair, Mid Kent College Visit, Careers Fair at Medway UTC, Local Careers Fairs, Workshops and presentations from various outside companies and our Employer Partners.

Year 12

  • At the beginning of the school year, students receive an action plan to complete which is used throughout the year to set targets, look at different careers and identify skills.
  • Termly Career workbooks are completed during Tutor time covering topics related to the Gatsby Benchmarks.
  • CV Workshops and Mock interviews with our partner companies.
  • Ongoing work experience programme with our Employer Partners throughout the academic year.
  • Trips and Visits: UCAS Conference, University of Greenwich, Careers fair at Medway UTC, local Careers Fairs, workshops and presentations from various outside companies and our Employer Partners.

Year 13

  • At the beginning of the school year, students receive an action plan to complete which is used throughout the year to set targets, look at different careers and identify skills.
  • CV Workshops and Mock Interviews with our Employer Partners.
  • Careers Interview with a qualified Careers Adviser, with an action plan to use.
  • Ongoing work experience programme with our Employer Partners throughout the academic year.
  • Personal Statement and UCAS sessions with ambassadors from the University of Greenwich.
  • One to one and group support in applying for University and apprenticeships with the Careers Coordinator and external companies.
  • Trips and Visits: UCAS Exhibition, University of Greenwich, What Career? What Uni Live?, Careers Fair at Medway UTC, local careers fairs, workshops and presentations from various outside companies and our Employer Partners.
