The careers programmes at Medway UTC are designed to support students at each stage of transition and decision-making. They aim to provide students with relevant information to help  them make informed choices about their future, and develop their employability skills.

Below is an overview of the areas covered in each year:

Year 10

  • Personal Development Planner with the University of Greenwich – a 12-week programme delivered during personal development time to introducing employability skills, job sectors and routes to your future.
  • Career Pathways – a 12-week programme delivered during personal development time to support you in understanding the STEM job market, what employers are looking for, how to position yourself as a candidate and how to set yourself goals with an action plan to achieve them.
  • Trips and Visits: The Skills Show, Detling Careers Fair, presentations from a range of speakers including, BAM, BAE, Arriva, National Apprenticeship Service.

Year 11

  • Post-16 Options Evening – an information evening about the option available for further study at Medway UTC, and alternative pathways.
  • One-to-one and group support in applying for post 16 education and training, with the Careers Coordinator, and external careers advisors.
  • CV writing and Personal Statements – a one week introduction to using the ULAS platform to develop a template for selling your skills and experiences, followed by one-to-one support
  • CV Workshops and Mock Interview with our partner companies.
  • Developing a professional online presence
  • Trips and Visits: The Skills Show, MidKent College visits, presentations from a range of speakers including BAM, Delphi, Arriva, Redrow, National Apprenticeship Service.

Year 12

  • ULAS platform used as a web-based tool for recording your skills and experiences, creating a CV and Personal Statement, and searching for work experience and job opportunities.
  • CV Workshops and Mock Interview with our partner companies.
  • The Medway UTC Work Experience Programme is on-going throughout the academic year, offering you placements with a wide range of roles across the local Engineering and Construction sectors. The placements are arranged in discussion with you and your teachers so that they take place at a time when they are of most benefit to you and your studies.
  • “Networking into Work” workshop to explore effective CVs, Peronsal Profiles and Cover letters, understanding what employers want and personal skills mapping, labour market intelligence and preparing for interview.
  • Trips and Visits: UCAS Conference, Skills London, Detling Careers Fair, University of Greenwich and UCAS presentations, National Apprenticeship Service.

Year 13

  • One-to-one and group support in applying for university and apprenticeships, with the Careers Coordinator, external careers advisors and University of Greenwich Ambassadors.
  • CV Workshops and Mock Interview with our partner companies.
  • Developing a professional online presence
  • “Managing your Money and Understanding Finance” workshop to explain concepts of salary, tax, budgeting, saving, credit and debt prevention.
  • Talks and Visits: Skills London, Student Finance, Arriva, BAM, Delpi.
